The Life of August Miles

Welcome!

august-porter.jpgThanks for visiting us. You must have heard that my Uncle Dave is training to run in the Marine Corps Marathon in D.C. on October 28th. He has graciously offered to raise money for every mile he runs to help my parents pay for my medical expenses. I have a lot of those. I go to the doctor between eight and 30 times each month. I feel lucky to have such a nice, generous uncle like Dave. He’s so strong, he’s going to run 26 miles for me.

After I was born I had to stay in the hospital for six weeks. It turns out that I am missing the tip of the long arm of my chromosome number 7. We’re not sure what it means because not many people in the world have this condition. I’ve already had two surgeries and I have a lot of trouble drinking my milk–that’s why I have a G-tube–so my parents put my milk directly into my tummy. I am slowly gaining weight and am up to 13 pounds. I will see a new GI doctor this week. Dr. Riley will try take a look at my stomach and try to find out why I am still having such a hard time with eating and swallowing.

Uncle Dave will be posting messages here about his last weeks of training and maybe even a picture of him running. Please pledge what you can to the August “Miles” Fund.
