Narrowly avoided a hospital stay.
August met with his new pediatrician, Dr. Newman, today and we narrowly escaped a hospital admission. He has had a cold for about a month, ear infections in both ears, outer ear infection, urinary tract infection. His cold has gotten worse, he is so congested he has a had time swallowing his milk. He coughs so much he throws up. A lot. Mucus and milk. Last night there was blood mixed in what came out of his mouth. That’s why we ended up at the pediatrician’s office again today. His breathing is labored and they weren’t getting good oxygen numbers for him. We were happy when his nurse and our former neighbor, Joanie, got the meter to read 95%. Whew. Diagnosis is brochiolitis with some kind of bacterial infection. We just started another round of antibiotics, bought a hot steam vaporizer and promised that if he is not any better, or if his breathing is still labored on Sunday, then we would take him into the ER. We shall see what the weekend brings.
Neighbors offered to have Porter over to play sometime over the weekend and August will just have to lay low.
He still weights just over 13 pounds. Malabsorption? Short bowel? We were so looking forward to ringing in the new year and saying goodbye to 2007. So far, 2008 isn’t proving to be much better, but then again we are just getting started.
Here’s to a HEALTHY 2008 for all. May we stay out of the hospital.

Hope you are enjoying 2008. We made it out to the snow on Christmas day for some hiking and sledding. August slept most of the time, snug in my coat.
